Luscombe history
The Luscombe 8 series comprises high-wing, side-by-side-seating monoplanes with conventional landing gear, originally designed in 1937 and manufactured by Luscombe Aircraft.
Following the closure of Luscombe Aircraft in 1949, Temco Aircraft, based in the US, acquired its assets. Temco produced around 50 Silvaires before transferring the rights to the Silvaire Aircraft Corporation in 1955.
Silvaire Aircraft Corporation: Upon TEMCO ceasing production, Otis Massey, a Luscombe dealer since the 1930s, purchased the Luscombe tooling, parts, and other assets. His new venture, Silvaire Uranium and Aircraft Corp., was established in Fort Collins, Colorado. From 1956 to 1961, the company produced 80 aircraft under the designation Silvaire 8F, with “Luscombe” indicated in quotation marks in its promotional materials. The first aircraft, N9900C, serial number S-1, was constructed in 1956 using spare or serviceable Material Review Board (MRB) parts left over from TEMCO’s previous production. N9900C’s maiden flight occurred on September 10, 1956. In 1957, six aircraft were built, two of which were shipped to Buenos Aires, Argentina.
In 2019, Testrake Aviation acquired the assets of the Luscombe Corporation with intentions to recommence production of the Luscombe 8.
