This is a used Lincat automatic water boiler – the EB3FX FilterFlow model – one of the best-selling commercial water boilers in the UK. It delivers up to 31 litres of filtered boiling water per hour from a 250 mm wide countertop footprint, making it a staple in commercial kitchens, cafés, offices, canteens, and anywhere that needs a reliable supply of hot water on tap around the clock. New, these retail at around £500 ex VAT – this is a used unit, so expect a significant saving.
Output and Performance
The EB3FX runs at 3 kW on a standard 230V 13A supply with a UK plug fitted, so there’s no hardwiring or specialist electrical work needed – it plugs straight in. Output is 31 litres per hour, which works out at roughly 155 cups. The rapid draw-off capacity is 9 litres, meaning you can dispense 9 litres in quick succession before the unit needs recovery time to reheat. For a morning rush in a busy café or a shift changeover in a canteen, that’s enough to handle a queue without running dry.
The temperature is adjustable from 70°C to 98°C via the colour touchscreen display. That range matters if you’re serving anything beyond standard tea and coffee – green teas, herbal infusions, and some specialty coffees are better at lower temperatures. Being able to dial in the exact temperature from the front panel rather than just getting “boiling” is a genuine advantage for any operation that cares about drink quality.
FilterFlow and Water Quality
The EB3FX has a built-in water filtration system with a high-volume, easy-change FilterFlow cartridge. The filter improves water taste and reduces limescale build-up inside the boiler – which in hard water areas is the single biggest cause of element failure and reduced efficiency in commercial water boilers. Keeping scale under control extends the life of the unit and maintains output performance.
There’s also a screw cap with an indicator probe to visually monitor limescale accumulation, and a built-in descaling function that guides you through the process on screen without needing to dismantle any components. For a busy operation where maintenance often gets pushed down the priority list, that simplicity is the difference between descaling actually getting done and the element burning out six months early.
Controls and Energy Saving
The colour touchscreen handles everything – programme selection, temperature adjustment, timer settings, diagnostics, and descaling. It’s straightforward to navigate, and the on-screen diagnostics can identify issues before they become failures, giving an engineer the information they need to fix problems at first visit rather than needing a return call.
The Eco mode reduces the volume of water held at boiling temperature by 50% during quieter periods, cutting energy consumption without switching the unit off entirely. You can also programme the boiler to switch off overnight on a 7-day timer, so it’s not drawing power heating water nobody’s going to use. Over a year of daily operation, those two features add up to a meaningful reduction in electricity costs.
Dimensions and Build
The EB3FX measures 600 mm high x 250 mm wide x 525 mm deep and weighs 13 kg. That 250 mm width is one of its biggest selling points – it takes up less counter space than almost any other commercial boiler at this output level. Stainless steel construction throughout, and it’s WRAS approved for connection to mains water supply.
