Husqvarna C5500 pre separator – an industrial-grade cyclonic pre-separation unit designed to sit between your dust source and your main dust extractor. This listing is for a new unit.
The C5500 is the larger model in Husqvarna’s pre-separator range and it does one job very well: it catches 90% of the vacuumed material before it reaches your dust extractor. That means your extractor’s filters last significantly longer, suction capacity stays higher for longer between cleans, and motor life is extended because the machine isn’t constantly working against clogged filters. If you’re running a T7500, T8600, T10000, T18000, or T8600 Propane, the C5500 is the recommended pairing.
It works on a simple cyclonic separation principle – dust-laden air enters the unit, the heavier particles drop out into the collection container, and cleaner air passes through to the extractor. No powered components, no additional electrics, just physics doing the heavy lifting. The Longopac bag hose system handles disposal – you seal and tear off a filled bag section without opening the unit or creating dust exposure, which matters on sites where you’re dealing with silica, concrete dust, or other hazardous particulates.
When You’d Use a C5500 Pre Separator
The C5500 earns its keep on jobs that generate serious volumes of dust – concrete grinding and polishing, floor preparation, slab cutting, dry coring, and tuckpointing are the typical applications. Basically anywhere you’re running a large grinder, scarifier, or saw and the dust load would overwhelm or prematurely clog a standalone extractor.
It also handles materials that are normally difficult for extractors to manage on their own – soot, burning particles, liquids, and light material in bulk quantities. It’s rated for both wet and dry applications, which adds versatility if you’re switching between tasks on site.
The build is corrosion-resistant steel clamps on a welded steel frame with a dust bag platform and steel carry handle. The frame doubles as a rest for transport – you tip it onto the frame and wheel it around. At 46 kg and dimensions of 600 x 720 x 1,640 mm, it’s not small but it’s manageable for one person to position on site.
Why Add a Pre Separator to Your Setup?
Running a dust extractor without a pre-separator on a heavy grinding or cutting job is like running a car without an air filter – it works, but you’ll burn through consumables and reduce the machine’s lifespan. The maths is straightforward: if the C5500 catches 90% of the material before it hits your extractor, your filter replacements drop dramatically, your airflow stays consistent, and you spend less time stopped for maintenance during the working day. On a busy site with a two or four-person crew, that translates directly to more square footage covered per shift.
